New Dimensional Governance Framework for Metaverse

The term “metaverse” has spread through the Internet and become a very hot topic since end 2021.  Big Tech are making big investments into the metaverse: Facebook announced changing its name to Meta; Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard as a segue into securing a major spot in the metaverse; NVIDIA built Omniverse to provide the tools for metaverse developers.

More and more businesses are investing the new Metaverse market trying to covert the user experiences into real money.   Some argue that government should avoid regulating the Metaverse at the initial phase as the early regulation may hinder the further innovation .  Some believe that Metaverse may become an autonomous domain, with its own community rules, or terms of use, etc.  However, the Metaverse is still an IT service built on the physical world, the laws still applied.

When the economic system and social norms in the virtual world have violated the real world laws, such as money laundering, fraud, infringement of intellectual property rights, disregard of consumer rights, etc. How will the law enact?

This panel invite different stakeholders to explore the legal challenges and possible governance frameworks for the Metaverse.
